Florida AC Contractors Continuing Education

All ac contractors are required by the State of Florida to complete 14 hours of continuing education, from a qualified instructor, befor they can apply to renew their HVAC Contractors license. While often new techniques, technology, and equipment are discussed, the main focus of many of these continuing education classes are the “nuts & bolts” how to’s of running a business in the State of Florida properly, profitably, and in accordance with the law and the DBPR (Department of Business and Proffessional Regulation).

“Florida licensed certified & registered contractors are required to complete 14 hours of mandatory continuing education every two years prior to their license renewal expiration.”

The classes offer a wide range of information on topics ranging from types of business organizations (sole proprietorship corporation or an LLC), liability and legal entanglements, mediation, arbitration, and lawsuits. What constitutes risk to a business, identifying, managing, and reducing risk. Managing risk, liabilities, and insurance associated with company vehicles.
I could go on and on, just all kinds of information about nearly every aspect of running a contracting business correctly. Good stuff to look at, even if you’ve seen it before.

This years continuing education classes were a little different. Due to COVID-19 all classes were virtual. The classes all went very well, the material was easy to follow on a computer screen. That said, often times the best part of continuing education, for me, has been the social side of it. With in person classes one gets the opportunity to meet their local associates/competitors, maybe grab lunch together, or meet up after class. The class itself, as classes go, couldn’t really have been better. I just miss the social aspect of it.

Community Cooling: 50 Years Of Air Conditioner Repairs And Service

June 15th 2020 will Mark 50 years to the day that Community Cooling has been providing air conditioner repairs, services, maintenance, and installation in Southwest Florida. Paul Hartman and one other partner began the company in the summer of 1970 in a small storefront on Fowler Street.

Within a short. Of time Paul bought out the other partner and continued operate the business as a family enterprise focused on providing top quality air conditioner service and repairs at a reasonable price to Lee county residents.

Coronavirus COVID-19 – Could This Help?

Does the RGF Reme Halo decrease the presence of bacteria, molds, and viruses (such as covid19 corona virus ) in the air and on surfaces?

With flu season upon us and coronavirus in the news everywhere we at Community Cooling and Heating Inc. have had time to think a bit about a piece of equipment we’ve been installing for over a year, the RGF Reme Halo air purification system. We have always recommended air purification systems to those who have respiratory trouble, but, over the past year we have doubled up on recommending the Reme Halo air purifier due to its ability to reduce odors inside the home. AHR Expo 2020

Last week some of the guys of Community Cooling and Heating headed north to Orlando to visit the AHR Expo, the air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration international exposition of 2020. There were booths hosted by companies that service and supply air conditioning and refrigeration contractors from all over the world.

There were manufacturers and distributors of air conditioners, air conditioner parts, service trucks, and a wide variety of tools used for every aspect of the HVAC industry. Also on display was some of the cutting edge technology that will shape the A/C industry in the not so distant future.

The convention was a great opportunity to see what is new in the way of tools techniques and technology within the air conditioning industry. One of the most popular stations was the Milwaukee tools display which featured 8 different stations each covering a different aspect or use of Milwaukee tools within the air conditioning industry as well as in general. At each station a Milwaukee tools representative wood initial a card, those who sat through all 8 of the presentations we’re gifted a very nice red Milwaukee tools t-shirt … which turned out to be one of the most highly sought-after giveaways at the exposition.

The convention was quite an eye-opener, and very informative. A great opportunity to not only learn how to provide greater value to our customers through technology right now, and also get a glimpse of the direction the HVAC industry is moving in as it marches into the future.

One of the area’s major air conditioner supply companies recently hosted an evening event for local contractors to get together, have a nice dinner, and learn about a few ways to streamline the process of ordering and picking up air conditioning supplies, and better serve our customers.

Johnstone Supply has served the HVAC industry well over the past few years with everything from fairly priced parts, tools, and materials to carrying, and recommending new/innovative ways to use todays technology to better solve their clients challenges. Excellent customer service is the cornerstone of their business model and they go to great lengths to prove it. A littlenlate to call it news, but, wanted to share a few pics of the Community Cooling Superbowl Party. The game was perhaps a little dull, but, the food and company were excellent, and a good time was had by all! Most of us showed up early and watched a few hours of the pre game show.. There were plenty of snacks, chips, sodas, and cocktails to be had, and most of us were well full before the game even started.

Among the main entrees were

Chicken wings

Baked beans

Rice

Salad

There should have been far more pictures, but, everybody (myself included) dove into the food as soon as it was put in front of us. Everything was delicious! Many thanks to those who worked so hard to prepare it for us. Can hardly wait for next years Suberbowl … if only for the food and good company!

What The News Press Had To Say About Us

TELL MEL ____________________________________________________- tellmel@newspress.com _____________________________________________________- Second opinion needed for AC fix _____________________________________________________ I don't usually do two air conditioning columns in a week, but Monday's column touched a nerve. So I thought I'd pass along some of the stories I've heard from AC company owners who have called. The first story comes courtesy of Kurt Hartmann of Community Cooling in Fort Myers. Hartmann gives free second opinions on other companies repair or replacement estimates. Recently, a woman who lives in a North Fort Myers mobile home park called him after another AC company had come to look at her unit. Several weeks earlier the woman had installed a thermostat and the AC worked fine. But when the weather turned cold, and she tried to get it to heat, the unit wouldn't work. She called a company, which will remain nameless. The technician removed the cover on the thermostat, examined it, and then went to look at the unit. His diagnosis: She needed a new relay and transformer. Total $2,300. Fortunately, the homeowner decided to brave the cold for a day and get a second opinion. Her unit was only six years old and she couldn't believe it needed such an expensive repair. When Hartmann's guy arrived, he too popped the cover off the thermostat. There he saw a switch with two positions for the heat - gas and electric. This thermostat had the switch in the position for gas, but she, like most people in Southwest Florida has an electric unit. When the thermostat was switched to the electric mode, the heater "worked like a champ" Hartmann said.
