All ac contractors are required by the State of Florida to complete 14 hours of continuing education, from a qualified instructor, befor they can apply to renew their HVAC Contractors license. While often new techniques, technology, and equipment are discussed, the main focus of many of these continuing education classes are the “nuts & bolts” how to’s of running a business in the State of Florida properly, profitably, and in accordance with the law and the DBPR (Department of Business and Proffessional Regulation).

The classes offer a wide range of information on topics ranging from types of business organizations (sole proprietorship corporation or an LLC), liability and legal entanglements, mediation, arbitration, and lawsuits. What constitutes risk to a business, identifying, managing, and reducing risk. Managing risk, liabilities, and insurance associated with company vehicles.
I could go on and on, just all kinds of information about nearly every aspect of running a contracting business correctly. Good stuff to look at, even if you’ve seen it before.
This years continuing education classes were a little different. Due to COVID-19 all classes were virtual. The classes all went very well, the material was easy to follow on a computer screen. That said, often times the best part of continuing education, for me, has been the social side of it. With in person classes one gets the opportunity to meet their local associates/competitors, maybe grab lunch together, or meet up after class. The class itself, as classes go, couldn’t really have been better. I just miss the social aspect of it.
