Air conditioners move air. Any restriction of air flow severely impacts your a/c’s efficiency and life expectancy
Air conditioners remove heat from your home by moving air through chilled coils that remove latent heat in the form of moisture, and then recirculating that air back into the home. Any obstruction that impedes that flow of air will significantly impact both the cooling ability, and the life expectancy of your a/c equipment. It is fairly well known that it is extremely important to change the air filter in your home every 30 days or your air conditioner will have to work twice as hard to draw in the air before it can even begin to cool it. The same concept applies equally to the condenser coils, evaporator coils and fan blades located inside your equipment as well. Any type of obstruction in these areas is likely to minimize the level of comfort, and make your air conditioner work longer and harder.
Dirty evaporator coils

This air filter is so dirty it had to be costing the homeowner serious monney every month on their electric bill!
Dirty blower wheel
The blower moves warm indoor air over the chilled evaporator apparatus as the exterior exhaust fan moves hot air away from the heated condenser coils. All air conditioning systems, including window units, heat pumps and ductless units, operate on the same principle. They differ only in the size and configuration of the coils. Blower wheels are specifically engineered to have a shape that pushes maximum amounts of air with minimum resistance. When dirt accumulates on a wheel in these quantities it disrupts the engineered aerodynamics of the wheel itself, making the entire machine have to work harder to push the air through the system, and the home.
